Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Most Frequently Asked Questions:

St. Joe’s is an all-boys HS.  How do you fill girls roles in your shows?

Auditions for girls roles are open to students from any surrounding NJ/NY parochial, private or public high school.

How do I find out about auditions for your shows?

Check your local community newspaper! Audition notices will appear at least a week before our audition dates.  Notices are also faxed to the offices of area high schools in Bergen, Passaic, and Rockland counties.  If you’re on facebook, you can follow our group page – SJR Theater, to read our posts.  Lastly, check the SJR Theater website for the latest audition updates.

Is it true you double cast your lead roles?  How does that work?

It is the policy of St. Joe’s Performing Arts program to use multiple casting for principal roles whenever possible, which provides the most opportunities for its cast members to perform in leading/supporting/featured roles.  Performances are split among those sharing their roles.

I’m interested in joining the Stage Crew.  How do I sign up?

We love our award-winning Stage Crew!  There are numerous opportunities for crew members – lighting, soundboard, set construction/painting, stage management, and props.  Students interested in Stage Crew are asked to audition, just like the performers.  You can sing “Happy Birthday”, the “Star-Spangled Banner”, or even the theme from Family Guy.  Many of our performers have been “discovered” while auditioning for Stage Crew.  But don’t freak out! If you truly want to be on Stage Crew, you just need to let us know…but only after your song is over.  We also encourage any student not cast to become a member of the Stage Crew.

Are there any fees to be in your shows?

There is a participation fee for each cast member, which is determined prior to auditions for each production.  This fee includes rental of the libretto/script, partial costuming, a haircut and/or hairstyle consultation, and makeup kit.  Our cast and crew members are asked to offset our production costs by soliciting Journal Ads and selling tickets.  Specifics are outlined in the Info Packet handed out at auditions.

How many performances do you do?

For our Winter Musical, we put on 11 performances over two weekends.  This includes a Preview Day on the Wednesday before opening weekend, with an Educational Performance @ 9am, a St. Joe’s Performance  (Act 1 only) @ 12:30pm and a Senior Citizen Performance @ 3pm (FREE to patrons 65 and older).

For our Spring Drama, we put on 6 performances over one weekend.  This includes a Preview Day on the Wednesday before opening.

I’ve heard you offer a Dinner Theater with certain performances. Can you tell me more?

Absolutely! During our Spring Drama, we offer a Dinner Theater for our Friday and Saturday performances.  The dinner is catered by a local venue and served in the school lounge prior to the show, in a theme to coincide with our chosen production.  Previous offerings were Italian for Lend Me a Tenor, classic American fare for A Few Good Men, and French cuisine for Is He Dead?  Dinner Theater is a popular evening for all, and has been a sell out each year.

How can I order tickets to your shows?

Tickets go on sale about 3 weeks prior to our first show date.  Please contact our Box Office at tkts@sjrtheater.com to order tickets to any of our Performing Arts events.

Can I buy tickets at the door?

Our shows sell out rather quickly.  Advance purchases are highly recommended.   Contact our Box Office at tkts@sjrtheater.com to inquire about availability.  Tickets may be available at the door before the performance, or you may place your name on a waitlist when the Box Office opens, 45 minutes prior to curtain.

Are seats assigned?  Do you have wheelchair access?

Yes, all seats are reserved (no general admission seating).  There is limited wheelchair seating; please contact the Box Office to advise of any special accommodations.

Do you accept credit cards?

Sorry, we do not accept credit cards.  All ticket orders must be paid by cash or check payable to St. Joseph Regional HS.

Where are you located?

The Inserra Theater at St. Joseph Regional HS is located at 40 Chestnut Ridge Road in Montvale, NJ.
