Questions can be directed to Robin Irwin at

Cuckoo’s Nest pits Randle Patrick McMurphy (a convict who has feigned psychosis so that he can spend the final months of his sentence at a mental institution) against Nurse Ratched (the icy head nurse of the ward), who believes that rules must be followed without exception. A band of crazies gets half-inspired, half destroyed by McMurphy’s rebellion and the question remains… was it worth it anyway?
Adapted by Dale Wasserman from Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel, this play starred Kirk Douglas and Gene Wilder in its original 1963 Broadway run. In 1975, it became an Academy Award-winning film starring Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher.
Performance Dates are May 10, 11, 12 & 13, 2012

My daughter is a sophomore who is interested in auditioning for the spring drama. We live in Montvale and she attends Pascack Hills. Do you know when the auditions will be? I’m assuming not till February but I wanted to check.
Thanks,
Maureen S.

Hello,
Auditions for the Spring Drama will be held sometime in late February. Audition notices are faxed to area HSs in Bergen, Passaic, and Rockland counties, and will also be posted to the SJR Theater website on the homepage. Please follow us on facebook and twitter – SJRTheater – for notifications as well.

Would a 6th grade boy from a nearby town be eligible to audition for this play?

Hi Gloria,
Thanks for your interest in our Performing Arts program. All male roles for our HS productions are filled by audition by students who attend St. Joe’s and any female roles are filled by audition by students from surrounding high schools (parochial, private and public.) On rare occasions, there are available roles for younger students, depending on the production. Our previous musical productions of THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER, MISS SAIGON, The Who’s TOMMY, and LES MISERABLES had roles for younger students. As ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST contains mature subject matter, there aren’t any roles for elementary aged students. Please check back on a regular basis for information on future productions.
